Circulating hematopoietic progenitors are not altered in patients with post-transplant erythrocytosis.

چکیده
Granulocyte/macrophage (GM), mixed colony and erythroid burst forming unit assays were performed in 9 post-transplant erythrocytosis (PTE) patients, 18 non-PTE kidney transplant recipients and 12 healthy volunteers. The number of GM precursors was lower in PTE patients than in normal subjects. This indicates that hematopoietic stem cell potential is not altered in PTE.

Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation for Thalassemia
Thalassemia is an autosomal recessive disorder associated with defective synthesis of the α- or β-chain of hemoglobin. For β-thalassemia major patients, therapeutic options are either monthly red cell transfusions and chelation therapy or allogeneic stem cell transplant. Stem cell transplant is the only curative approach and success is inversely correlated with the degree of iron overload and h...
متن کاملAngiotensin II stimulates proliferation of normal early erythroid progenitors.
Angiotensin II exerts a mitogenic effect in several in vitro models, but a direct effect on erythroid progenitors has not been documented. Angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors and losartan, an angiotensin II type 1 receptor (AT1) antagonist, ameliorate posttransplant erythrocytosis, without altering serum erythropoietin levels. We studied erythroid differentiation and the effect of angioten...
متن کاملKinetics and immunophenotypic characterization of circulating hematopoietic progenitor cells after peripheral blood stem cell transplantation.
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Hematopoietic progenitor cells (HPC) circulate in the peripheral blood (PB) before and after engraftment following autologous or allogeneic peripheral blood stem cell transplantation (PBSCT), although the characteristics of these cells are not known. CD34 protein is a reliable marker for identifying the fraction of hematopoietic cells in which HPC are contained. The CD...
متن کاملبررسی عوامل خطر موثر بر اریتروسیتوز بعد از پیوند کلیه در کلینیک های پیوند بیمارستان های سینا و بقیه الله
Background: Post-transplant erythrocytosis (PTE) is characterized by persistent hematocrit level above 51% that develops in 10-20% of kidney recipients, mostly 2 years after kidney transplantation. PTE is self limited in 25% of the patients but can be persistent in other patients with an increased susceptibility for thrombosis. The purpose of this study was to identify the risk factors for deve...
متن کاملBlood disorders typically associated with renal transplantation
Renal transplantation has become one of the most common surgical procedures performed to replace a diseased kidney with a healthy kidney from a donor. It can help patients with kidney failure live decades longer. However, renal transplantation also faces a risk of developing various blood disorders. The blood disorders typically associated with renal transplantation can be divided into two main...
